Managed BACnet

The Managed BACnet project is addressing technology and implementation challenges for deploying BACnet into cloud-native buildings.

Purpose and Scope 

  • To define specifications and guidelines to encourage the broad adoption of BACnet in Could-Native environments. 

  • Create, gather, and catalog open-source resources in support of the stated purpose. 

  • Promote the widespread adoption of best practices for utilizing BACnet technology in cloud-native environments. 

 

Goals and Deliverables 

Short term (6-12 months) 

  • Create a roadmap for the adoption of BACnet in cloud environments. 

  • Establish working relationships with other organizations working on BACnet. 

 

Long-term vision 

  • Identify and create ways to overcome market barriers to the adoption of BACnet in cloud environments. 

 

Membership & Participation 

  • C4SB Founding member Cimetrics, as a leading BACnet vendor, is volunteering to chair and lead the group. 

  • Existing members of the Managed BACnet group. 

  • Any member of C4SB, LF, or related organizations. 

  • Any other organic person. 

 

Next Steps 

  • Request official recognition by the C4SB Foundation 

  • Resources support (GitHub, mailing list, Zoom) 

  • Review and coordination with other WGs as necessary 

  • Decide on a schedule of WG cadence calls 

  • Establish permission to use the BACnet trademark from ASHRAE 

  • Establish liaison with the BACnet International trade group
